Day 1: Car Camping - Kyushu, Japan Edition

In this 8 part series, we present voice recordings and tidbits taken during our car camping adventure on the island of Kyushu, Japan. You'll get to see and hear what we saw each day and how we felt about it. We did not edit the voice recordings or photos so you can really get a sense of how we were feeling and what we experienced on this trip. We hope you enjoy these experiences as much as we did!

Camper Van in Japan DAY 1: SUMMARY

There was hiking and onsen with our group of friends from Fukuoka. The onsen was too hot for all of us and we all left a little lightheaded but it was super traditional and in a great area next to a rushing river. We bid farewell to our friends and drove a short way to a "free" campground. Perhaps we just missed how/where to pay but we were very glad of the location and the super clean bathrooms. The wind is a bit much and the temps a bit chilly but we are secure in our little van. The only other people in the grounds are in a tent and they had to abandon their hopes of a bbq dinner as the wind was too much for their little fire. I'm sure we had some sort of prepared meal from 7-Eleven and then used our super fancy pocket wifi to host a Skype session with a potential house sit in the UK this winter. Spoiler alert: We got the sit!

Highlights include: Mixed bag of day, Zac joined a group of friends on a great hike up the mountains in Aso Kuju National Park, Jill went for a little walk on her own instead and had a taste of gravel as she face planted in front of a group of Japanese hikers, an onsen visit to soothe sore muscles and get clean
