Best Places to See Cherry Blossoms in Seoul, Korea

Best Place to See Cherry Blossoms in Seoul

We were fortunate enough to have timed our trip to Japan to catch full on cherry blossom fever. Two years later we are in Korea doing research for the best places to see cherry blossoms in Seoul.

Cherry blossoms in Seoul aren't as famous around the world. In the past when I would think of cherry blossoms, I would only think of Japan. And of course the stretch of them in Washington DC, which came from...Japan.

But it makes sense that there would be cherry blossoms in Seoul and in Taiwan! So I thought I would share with you what appear to be the best places to view these wonderfully fragrant flowers in Seoul, where we will be for the next few weeks.

Seokchon Lake

Seokchon lake is going to be super crowded for a number of reasons. It's a famous cherry blossom viewing spot centrally located around a bunch of other Seoul attractions. Crazy attractions like the Lotte World Magic Island (from which I would run screaming) and the Lotte World Tower, which is the tallest building in S. Korea. You can see this building nicely from Cheonggyesan.

Yeouido Park

In all my research so far, it seems that Yeouido Park may be the best place to see cherry blossoms in Seoul. It's along the Ham River, which is quite lovely for a stroll and reportedly there is a lot of street food and places to sit and relax. There are a few free concerts and other events too!

Yangjae Cheon Park

We passed a train stop our way to hike in Cheonggyesan that was for the "Citizens Forest". I joked that we should get off and take a wander around. It's just such an interesting name that brings to mind hundreds of trees planted in rigid rows. Well, it turns out that some of the best cherry blossoms in Seoul can be viewed from Yangjae Cheon Park.

Reportedly it's a very relaxed and chill spot that mainly locals visit. There is a cherry blossom festival here, but apparently you are better off going one of the other festivals.

Namsan Park

You can't miss Namsan if you tried. It is Seoul's most popular mountain mainly because it's smack dab in the middle of the city and is filled with trails.  Be ready for a couple hour hike if you are going to make it to the top.
